Sacred reasons for growing long hair

In cultures all over the world you can find select groups of people with uncut hair and it is almost always for religious reasons.

In ancient jewish society a Nazarite was someone who had taken a vow to not cut their hair and had to follow a series of other restrictions. The most famous Nazarite was Samson who was known for his great strength which was a result of his uncut hair.

In the New Testament (1 Corinthians 11) you can find a detailed explaination of the reasons why women ought to have long (uncut) hair.

Scripture reminds women that while their hair is their glory, it is not a replacement for the hidden beauty of the heart. May your outward expressions of beauty actually be a mirror of your unending virtue.
