Hair Essentials
Tressup Magazine's recommended hair care kit
The most important part of growing long hair is keeping it healthy. The items listed below are specifically chosen to minimize the damage that your hair may endure on a daily basis.
1. Microfiber Towel
Traditional cotton towels are very harsh on the hair and can cause breakage while drying. A soft microfiber towel will absorb the moisture off your hair without the friction.
2. Wide Tooth Comb
Your traditional brush may be causing more tangles as you brush and will resulting in tearing and splitting of your hair. A wide tooth comb will allow for gentler detangling. Just make sure you don't comb your hair while it is wet, because hair is most vulnerable to breakage when it is wet.
3. Scrunchie
If you are wearing an updo and the hairtie isn't going to show, we prefer that you use a scrunchie over a basic elastic. While scrunchies may not be the fashion statement they were in the 1980's they are cause far less pulling, crimping, and breakage.
4. Silk or Satin Pillowcase
Your cotton pillowcase causes friction which results in tangling your hair. Since we spend nearing 1/3 of our time sleeping, it is important to have a pillowcase that protects your hair from tangling and breakage.
5. Extra Large Bobby Pins
As women with long hair we are accustomed to having to use dozens of bobby pins to secure our long hair and often find rogue pins leaving a trail behind use like Hansel and Gretels trail of breadcrumbs. Long bobby pins (typically used to secure head scarves) are very useful for long hair and will require less pins to secure your glorious mane.
6. Soft Satin Roller
These rollers are very useful for creating vintage victory rolls or can be used to create beautiful curls without heat damage. They are a small and lightweight addition to keep in your hair kit.
7. Cosmetic Bag
Even if you don't use makeup, having a cosmetic bag can also be used to keep your hair essentials organized and readily available no matter where you are.
